Private Protective Services

Purpose

The Tennessee Private Protective Services program was created in 1987 and regulates Armed and Unarmed Security Guards, Certified Trainers, Contract Security Companies and Proprietary Security Organizations (PSOs).  Effective July 1, 2021, it is housed within the Commissioner-run Detection Services Licensing Program.  The current requirements for the licensure of security guards, certified trainers, contract security companies, and proprietary security organizations can be found in Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 62, Chapter 35.

Mission

The mission of Tennessee Private Protective Services is to protect the public health, safety and welfare through the regulation of armed and unarmed security guards, certified trainers, contract security companies and proprietary security organizations.
